Privacy policy
The short version: Dubbel has no account, no server and no analytics. Everything you put into it stays on your iPhone. We cannot see it, and we do not want to.
Who we are
Dubbel is published by Mariya Enns Yazgan, an individual developer based in İstanbul, Türkiye. For anything about this policy, write to support@dubbel.app.
What Dubbel stores, and where
Dubbel stores the following on your iPhone only, in the app's own protected storage:
- The notes you write to your later self.
- Which apps and websites you chose to lock, and when each lock started and ended.
- Drink counts and the times you tapped them, if you use the drink counter.
- Attempts to open a locked app, and what you did at Dubbel's screen.
- Drafts: text you typed at Dubbel's screen but chose not to send.
- Your settings, including your profile for the blood-alcohol estimate if you entered one.
- Optional, only if you turn them on: short videos you record to yourself (camera and microphone), and the coordinates of where you were when you counted a drink or reached a lock (location). Both stay on the phone.
None of this is sent to us or to anyone else. Dubbel contains no networking code for its own data, no third-party SDKs, no advertising and no tracking.
Screen Time and the apps you lock
Dubbel uses Apple's Screen Time frameworks (Family Controls, Managed Settings and Device Activity) so that your sober self can restrict your own apps for a few hours. You grant this permission yourself, for yourself; it is not parental control.
When you pick apps to lock, Apple gives Dubbel opaque tokens rather than app names. Dubbel can show you the icons and names on your own phone, but it never learns which apps you chose in any form it could store as text or send anywhere. The tokens stay on the device.
Permissions and why they are asked
- Screen Time access — to lock the apps you chose and show Dubbel's screen instead of them.
- Notifications — local reminders only, created on your phone. No push server.
- Camera and microphone — only if you record a video to yourself. The file stays on the phone, protected while the phone is locked.
- Speech recognition — only in the optional self-check feature, to compare how you read one sentence against your own earlier runs. Recognition runs on the device; audio is not stored and not sent anywhere.
- Motion — only in the optional self-check feature, to measure balance for a few seconds. Nothing is stored beyond the result on your phone.
- Location — only if you turn it on in Settings › Beta. Dubbel saves coordinates on the phone and can open them in Apple Maps. It never looks up place names and never sends coordinates anywhere. The "Always" option exists only so a drink counted from the Lock Screen can be placed too.
Every permission can be refused or revoked in iOS Settings. Dubbel keeps working without the optional ones.
What leaves your phone, and only when you choose
- Sharing a draft or a recap. If you tap share, iOS's share sheet sends the text to the app you pick. That is your action and your recipient.
- Diagnostic export. Settings offers an export of Dubbel's technical log for troubleshooting. It is produced on the phone and goes only where you send it. It never includes your notes, videos, drafts or locations.
- Shortcuts. If you set up a shortcut to run when a lock opens, Dubbel asks iOS to run your shortcut and passes only the time. What the shortcut does, and to whom, is defined by you in the Shortcuts app; Dubbel does not know.
- Apple Maps. Opening a saved location hands the coordinates to the Maps app on your phone.
Subscriptions
Dubbel is free to download and unlocks with a subscription bought through Apple. Apple handles payment and billing; Dubbel receives no name, email, address or card details. Your subscription status is checked on the device through Apple's StoreKit. Refunds and cancellations are handled by Apple in your Apple Account settings.
Apple's own data
If you have chosen in iOS Settings to share analytics and crash reports with app developers, Apple may provide us aggregated, de-identified crash and usage statistics for Dubbel. We do not receive anything that identifies you. You can turn this off in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
Your iPhone backups (iCloud or a computer) may include Dubbel's data, under Apple's backup protection. We have no access to your backups.
Deleting your data
Settings in Dubbel has a "Delete all data" action that removes everything, including videos and locations. Deleting the app does the same and also removes every lock. You can revoke Screen Time access at any time in iOS Settings › Screen Time.
Because nothing is stored outside your phone, there is nothing for us to delete on request; there is also nothing we could restore if you lose the phone.
Children
Dubbel is about drinking and is not intended for anyone under the legal drinking age in their country. It is rated 17+ on the App Store.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR and similar laws you have rights over personal data a company holds about you. We hold none. If you believe otherwise, or have any question, write to support@dubbel.app and we will answer.
Changes
If Dubbel ever starts to handle data differently, this page will change first and the date at the top will move. The principle will not: your nights are yours.
